Upslope Craft Lager

by

It’s hot and you want to cool down with something light, but not, you know, “lite beer”. Or you’re looking to crack open a few and want a session beer you can enjoy. Or you just want a beer you can take with you outdoors. Upslope Brewing Company Craft Lager attempts to please.
According to Upslope Brewing, the Craft Lager is made with snowmelt, malt, Czech Saaz hops and lager yeast. The Boulder, Colo., company only uses cans in its products. Why? According to Upslope’s website, it’s “because it’s good for you, the beer, and the environment. Plus, (the cans are) exceptionally portable for all you on-the-go beer enthusiasts!”
But is it good? Let’s find out.

Upslope Brewing Craft Lager Stats

ABV: 4.8%
IBUs: 15
Method of pour: 12 oz. can poured into pilsner glass.

Color: Clear yellow. Lots of effervescence and a strong head. There’s CO2 in this beer for sure.

Nose: I smell the lager yeast and not much more. There is some faint nuttiness or earthiness from the Saaz Hops.

Flavor: There’s not much in the way of a hop profile on this. There is that slight floral hint and some yeast. It’s a light lager, so crispness is more important than having a strong flavor. There is not much lingering flavor or weight to this beer. I wish the finish didn’t disappear immediately.

Truth to style: Upslope Craft Lager is a Bohemian-style lager.

Bottom line: Upslope Craft Lager is a good brew to kick back in hot weather or when you want something lighter for a session brew. It’s not going to knock your socks off, and it’s not designed to be earth shattering. It’s a straight-ahead American lager.
